Windows 8.1 DVD Problems

Windows 8.1 is lacking a working DVD player What? This is simply ridiculous. This was new to me - but I did find several references to this on the web. Why would Microsoft do this? I assume the hardware will install software from the disk right out of the box. It simply will not play a DVD. I found a piece of software you can add to your machine that solves this - but don't look for Windows Media Player 12 to work to play a DVD natively. VLZ will work flawlessly and undo your disappointment. Nice going Microsoft. FAIL!
